Working Groups
COGWORKS
The Cognitive Health and Wellbeing Hub (COGWORKS) is an international network of researchers funded under the Lifelong Health and Wellbeing (LLHW) programme.
The funding partners are:
- the Health and Social Care Research and Development Office, Northern Ireland;
- the Chief Scientist Office of the Scottish Government Health Directorates;
- Department of Health/National Institute for Health Research, England;
- Wales Office of Research and Development for Health and Social Care, Welsh Assembly Government;
- the five UK Research Councils (AHRC, BBSRC, EPSRC, ESRC and MRC).
The programme is managed by the Medical Research Council (MRC).

Working group discusses transport issues raised at engagements, these are brought around the table with the key people in the transport sector and a compromise/ solution is come to with regards to solving the problem.
This group works together with IMTAC- The Inclusive Mobility and Transport Advisory Committee (Imtac) is a committee of disabled people and older people as well as others including key transport professionals. Our role is to advise Government and others in Northern Ireland on issues that affect the mobility of older people and disabled people.
IMTAC have just released for consultation the ‘Accessible Transport Strategy Action Plan 2009-2012’.
Trusts
A senior representative from all five of the trusts over Northern Ireland get together to share good practice, discuss key learns and the way forward for care across the board.
This will evolve into meetings between the Trusts, Patient Client Council and Royal College of Nursing.
O4O
O4O is an EU Northern Periphery Programme funded project, helping older people help themselves. Working with older people in remote, rural and peripheral communities, O4O is actively:
Engaging with older people’s skills, experience and knowledge
Nurturing enterprising and proactive activity among older people
Building older people’s capacity for innovation, action, enterprise and voluntary activity.
O4O is in action in locations in Finland, Greenland, N Ireland, Scotland and Sweden.
NIO - Community Safety Strategy
Working with the Northern Ireland Office Community Safety Unit to discuss the fears and anxieties of older people in the community and what can be done to make them feel safer in their own homes.
Hardship, Poverty, Debt and Energy Sub Working-Group Poverty, Debt and Energy sub-group of the Cross Sector Advisory Forum (CSAF).
Ministers set up this group due to the current economic climate, they have indicated the aim of the group is to bring forward practical proposals that the CSAF, and ultimately the Executive, can consider to mitigate the worst effects of the economic downturn. With a view to achieving this aim, the discussion of the working group centred largely around the first objective of the group namely, 'to identify the best initiatives to relieve the social and welfare hardships arising from the economic crisis'.
