Improving the Healthcare of Older People in Northern Ireland
Dame Joan Harbison met with the British Medical Association and The long Term Conditions Alliance to promote the access to health care with regards to dignity and respect.
Since 2008, accessible healthcare for older people has been an important area of work for the British Medical Association. Given the concerns expressed by the medical profession regarding the care of older people in our society, the BMA(NI) held a workshop with key stakeholders to identify issues and offer recommendations with regard to primary care, hospital care, care homes and community care services. Underpinning all of the recommendations is the need for equity of access to healthcare; and for service users and carers to be treated with dignity and respect.
BMA(NI) recently met with Dame Joan Harbison, Older Persons Advocate to discuss opportunities for future joint working on healthcare issues such as the proposed service framework on the health and wellbeing of older people in Northern Ireland.
